During my internship at Wishfully I created a prototype of the swimming system for Planet of Lana 2 together with the lead animator and another animation intern.

We worked together and managed to create a prototype in the span of about two months for an upcoming deadline.

During this project I handled the technical side of development as the sole programmer; I of course got help from the senior programmers too.

This was a great opportunity for me to get reintroduced to Unity and get used to prototyping for designers/directors.

In this project I used a behaviour machine to handle the different states of the character and we used rootmotion to move the character.

Example of underwater behaviour code.

public class UnderWaterBehaviour : LanaMachine.UpdateBehaviour
{
    private LanaConfig config = null;

    public override void OnEnter()
    {
        config = LanaMachine.instance.configs;
        context.canInteract = true;
    }

    public override void OnUpdate()
    {
        if (context.IsAboveSurface(machine.transform, config.surfaceLimit))
        {
            machine.ActivateBehaviour<AboveWaterBehaviour>();
        }

        if (!config.isInvincible)
        {
            if (context.airTimer >= config.timeTilDrowning)
            {
                machine.ActivateBehaviour<DrowningBehaviour>();
            }
            else
            {
                context.airTimer += Time.deltaTime;
            }
        }
    }

}

I had a movement component that translated the input from another input bridge and passed through the animation variables to the animator.

We used scriptable objects for settings to be able to make changes during playtime and to compare settings so the animators could find their preferred values.

Player movement component.

I had a lot of fun and got carried away making features, creating interacting systems and breakables.

I even even created had the time to an ocean environment and made some shaders to enhance the ocean feeling.
